Schools Cyber Security Challenges Partners
The Grok Cyber activities are designed to provide school teachers with resources to support the teaching of cyber security concepts, and to inform students of career opportunities in the field.
All activities are classroom ready, and aligned with both the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies and the ICT Capability.
Both the Schools Cyber Security Challenges and the Grok Cyber initiatives have been developed by Grok Academy, in partnership with some of the biggest names in industry.
Grok Cyber is an exciting free Cyber Security competition for Australian school students.
All Australian school students in years 5 to 12 are welcome to take part. Register as a school team, or join Grok Cyber from home!
Grok Cyber has 3 parts: Grok Cyber Comp, Grok Cyber Pursuit/Hunt, and Grok Cyber Live!
Grok Cyber Comp runs over a two week period. Students complete a 45 minute online challenge any time over the two weeks. Occurs in Jun/Jul and Nov/Dec each year.
Grok Cyber Pursuit and Grok Cyber Hunt consist of a series of short problems solved by applying cyber security skills. Challenging problems for keen students.
Grok Cyber Live brought together the best of cyber security industry professionals and students at an action packed live event which took place in March 2022.

The Challenges explore general topics like personal information security and data sharing, as well as technical topics such as cryptography and network security. A range of engaging activities involving investigation, deduction and programming develop student knowledge, skills and dispositions as they work their way through increasingly difficult problems.

This Challenge teaches personal information security using the innovative approach of thinking from a hacker’s point-of-view.
Designed specifically for primary school students in years 5 and 6, this version of the challenge presents the concepts through a series of conversations with the characters from the social media world we've created.
This challenge introduces students to phishing and scams. Students learn the techniques adopted by hackers to trick people into sharing confidential information.
This Challenge demonstrates the importance of security in web applications by exposing typical flaws in websites that can be exploited using tools built into the web browser.
This Challenge introduces basic cryptography concepts in relation to data representation and securing online communication, and how these are implemented through code.
This Challenge teaches the fundamentals of wired and wireless networks and the underlying principles of digital systems using BBC micro:bits.
A 45 minute online activity open to all Australian school students in years 5-12. The comp consists of 12 interactive problems in which students explore how to be more secure online and discover common cyber security risks.
A collection of short problems, challenging students to use investigative skills to hunt down hiden information in a variety of contexts. A great way to add a bit of cyber to each of your lessons!
