Web.Comp is a web competition for high school students. We’ll teach you how to build a website as we go along, rather than expecting you to be an expert already.
Web.Comp 2017 will run for 5 weeks, from Monday 27th February until Sunday 2nd April. Each week, we'll release interactive notes with the information you'll need to complete the week's web design challenges. The last week will be a web design tournament where you can submit your own design and vote on everyone else's!
Every time you use the web, you're seeing HTML and CSS. Creating a website is one of the most useful technical skills you can learn.
Web.Comp teaches you HTML and CSS, the powerful building blocks needed to build a website from scratch. Learning to write HTML and CSS by hand gives you full control over the look and interactivity of your site, so you can implement your web designs exactly as you imagined them!
We provide interactive notes tailored to the competition, so you'll stay engaged and learn at a comfortable pace.
Our notes have been expanded over more than a decade of teaching, and including interactive code snippets which can be edited and run. When combined with our challenging problems they're the perfect format for learning web development.
Each concept you learn is matched with a problem to solve, with instant intelligent feedback from our automarker helping to step you through the problem-solving process.
Our cloud based automarking system breaks each problem down in to a number of tests, checking various different test cases. If you're not 100% there we'll tell you why and help you on the way to completely solving the problem.
Rank on the leaderboards by solving problems, and go head to head with students from around the world in the final-week web design tournament.
Compete for glory on a stage dominated by the hardest working. Each question answered correctly gets you points that improve your ranking. Bring together all your new skills in Week 5 and show the world your own fantastic web design.
Find a welcoming community of tutors and peers on the forums. Chat about problems and solutions in a safe, moderated environment.
If you get stuck, you can ask for help on the forums. Remember not to post your code though! Experienced tutors moderate the forums and answer questions, and you could even help out if you have some more web experience! General banter and making friends is also encouraged.
